Paris's Grand Slam date
Held since 1928 at the Roland-Garros stadium, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, the tournament is the only Grand Slam of the four played on clay. This particular surface, slower than grass or hard court, favours long, demanding rallies that give the event its unique character.
A deeply modernised stadium
Successive renovations have considerably transformed the experience: a retractable roof over the Philippe-Chatrier centre court, the new Simonne-Mathieu court set within the Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil greenhouses, and high-end reception spaces for partners and private guests.
The most sought-after seats
Boxes and seats on the main courts, especially for the semi-finals and final, are booked months ahead through official hospitality programmes. The last two weeks of May and the first of June concentrate the bulk of the tournament's impact on Paris.
Getting around during the tournament
The site sits away from central Paris, in the 16th arrondissement, and traffic nearby becomes heavy at session entry and exit times. A chauffeur who knows the authorised drop-off points saves considerable time, especially during evening sessions.
Our concierges' advice. For evening sessions on centre court, plan to leave well ahead of match time: access queues lengthen quickly later in the day.
