Three Distinct Peaks
Christmas and New Year's week is the most pressured period of the year. Next comes the ski World Cup in December, then the February school holidays, which fill the resort for four weeks. Between these peaks, January and March offer superb conditions with far greater availability.
Getting to Courchevel
The altiport allows direct access by light aircraft or helicopter, but the runway is short and demanding. From Chambéry allow two hours by road, from Geneva two and a half hours, from Lyon two hours forty-five minutes. In snowy conditions these times increase, and a properly equipped vehicle isn't an option but a necessity.
The Helicopter Transfer
From Chambéry, the flight takes around twenty minutes compared with two hours by road. It's the solution we systematically recommend on holiday changeover days, when traffic in the Tarentaise valley is at its heaviest.
Chalet and Vehicle
The finest addresses in Courchevel 1850 are booked from the previous spring for the following season. The vehicle can be booked later, but allow two months regardless for the holiday period.
Our concierges' advice. For Christmas and New Year, start your chalet search in April or May. It's the only way to have a genuine choice.
